Self Awareness and Why It is Important to Your Brainpower
by Get Smart on Mar.28, 2010, under Brain Power
What is self-awareness? Self-awareness is a state of being where you already know yourself in terms of your strengths and weaknesses. Being self-aware not only means that you are confident of your skills and talents, but also you have accepted your limitations as a human being. But of course, that doesn’t mean that you cannot do anything more; rather, by accepting your limitations, you are open to all sorts of possibilities that can make you a better, more talented person.
But how does self-awareness help boost one’s brainpower?
By being self-aware, you know the things you can do physically, mentally and emotionally. Because of this you get to condition your brain and allot enough energy to fulfill your goal. A lot of people haven’t realized this fact yet, and since they are too confident of their own skills, they become blinded towards the other opportunities their brain can do and thus limit themselves with what they already have. The brain in turn becomes stagnant and its creative muscle becomes too lazy to stretch, and that’s something you have to avoid.
Second, through self-awareness, you are able to set your emotions and intellectual activities apart. You can think with a calm, relaxed mind despite being excited and thrilled on a particular object or event that’s to come your way. Usually, when a person has become too emotional, it becomes difficult for him to think properly mainly because his feelings get in the way. By being aware of your own strengths and capabilities, you know where to stand, how to stand and avoid making mistakes since your decisions are well constructed.
Through self-awareness, you get to focus more and provide undivided attention towards a particular goal. When a person lacks self-awareness, he easily gets affected by the influences surrounding him. He then has the tendency to be envious, be proud, be confused and frustrated without even looking at his own talents first. The brain is hence hindered from functioning at its best. When you are aware of own self, your brain’s path towards success is clear and smooth, and that the only enemy it has to face is itself.
Another reason why self awareness is important in boosting the brainpower is because it allows the mind to relax even at the most difficult situations. You won’t easily feel like panicking during emergencies or stressful situations mainly because your mind is already set to think straight; thus your brain is able to function at its best and produce more substantial results.
Finally, through self-awareness, you acquire a positive outlook towards learning new things in life. Because of your mind’s openness towards the limitless opportunities based on its potential, you then have more room for imagination, creativity and innovation, and be able to use them in your goals, projects and all sorts of activities.
